FAQ: Biological Safety Cabinets Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC's)

7. What is the difference between a Class II Type A1 and a Class II Type A2 cabinet?

They are similar; however, the A2 must have a minimum of 100 fpm intake velocity, must be ducted and contaminated plenums must be under negative pressure or surrounded by negative pressure. The BioGARD is a Type A1 only, the SterilGARD can be used as either a Type A1 or A2. - Updated: July 26, 2002
