The Baker Company Releases the Energy Efficient SterilGARD^® e3 Class II, Type A2, Vertical Flow Biological Safety Cabinet

(JUNE 2009) SANFORD, ME -- The Baker Company announced the release of the SterilGARD® Energy Efficiency Engineered (e3) biological safety cabinet with new energy-saving features for significant ongoing cost savings. The SterilGARD e3 Class II, Type A2, vertical flow cabinet offers a revolutionary airflow management system that requires less energy and improves user comfort by reducing heat, noise, and vibration.

As the industry's most durable and reliable cabinet, SterilGARD e3 cabinets operate with lower life cycle costs and increased years of trouble-free operation. “The SterilGARD e3 biological safety cabinet was designed to provide our customers significant energy savings while maintaining the high safety and performance standards they have come to expect from Baker,” said David Eagleson, president of The Baker Company. “By redesigning the blower/motor, we've created a more efficient, less demanding and quieter airflow system.”

SterilGARD e3 is packed with convenient features to achieve superior containment protection in which five technologies work in accord: Baker's exclusive momentum air curtain, high velocity return air slots, aerodynamically designed airfoil, specially chosen downflow and exhaust HEPA filters, and a unique air bypass armrest. The SterilGARD e3 self-adjusts to maintain the safest operation available in a Class II biosafety cabinet.

It is the only cabinet in the industry that offers Baker's exclusive ReadySAFETM mode, a versatile mode that allows the user instantly safe working conditions upon opening the viewscreen. Safety assurance is enhanced through a variety of features, including an audible/visual sash alarm system and an exclusive right-side cable port to keep vacuum tubing and other cables out of the way for proper viewscreen closure.

In addition to the increased energy efficiency and safety performance, a variety of convenient enhancements make SterilGARD e3 one of the most comfortable working environments. Carefully designed and tested ergonomic seating allows the operator a more comfortable head and elbow position, reducing fatigue. Likewise, SterilGARD e3 cabinets have a slanted sliding viewscreen that minimizes glare and makes the cabinet easier to use and more comfortable to work in.

Constructed with detachable side panels, a reinforced overall panel design, and an innovative electronic controller that provides diagnostic LEDs, SterilGARD e3 maintenance is quicker and easier. Baker's optimum blower/motor design ensures performance and extends filter life an additional 30% over previous cabinets—the longest life in the industry. An extended filter life yields less waste and less user downtime for laboratories. SterilGARD e3 is available in 4-foot, 5-foot, and 6-foot models.

For all 5-foot SterilGARD e3 models, customers now have the option of a 12” viewscreen sash opening, the largest opening in the industry, to easily accommodate the loading and unloading of taller laboratory equipment. The SterilGARD e3 biological safety cabinet is designed for various applications involving agents of low and moderate risk. Appropriate applications can include sterile product preparation and biological experimentation.
